Our best 7 tips for never sagging curls again

At MAE we often get the question from customers how come curls do not stay put after styling the hair with the Airstyler. This is of course very annoying and not the intention, but there are enough tips to ensure that your curls stay put for a long time! Read on to get the best tips on how to curl your hair so you can enjoy your hairstyle for a long time!

How do I make sure the curls stay put?

Below we explain step-by-step how you can keep your curls long, so you can enjoy them to the fullest. With these 7 tips, you'll never have a bad hair day again!

Tip 1: Good Precautions

The most important thing before you start styling and curling your hair is that your hair is washed and clean. Make sure you use a good shampoo and conditioner that nourishes and cares for your hair, as well as a shampoo and conditioner that reduces frizz and detangles.

Then it is important that you comb your hair properly, of course everyone has a brush at home, but did you know there is a lot of difference in what kind of brush you use? We as MAE are very big fans of the tangle teezer. This brush is great to use on wet as well as dry hair and detangles super easily. Ideal if you ask us!

Once you have finished combing your hair it is time to put in the mousse, at MAE we are busy developing our own Protection curl mousse for now we recommend buying a strength mousse from your nearest supermarket. Spread the mousse evenly through damp hair from roots to ends. Gently knead the hair for extra volume and texture. Use the mousse before curling or styling your hair for long-lasting hold and beautiful shape

Tip 2 Choose the right temperature

It is essential to adjust the temperature of the airstyler to your hair type for optimal results and to avoid damage. For fine and fragile hair, a lower temperature (around 30-75°C) is recommended. This prevents overheating and minimizes the risk of damage. For thicker and coarser hair, use a higher temperature (around 75-100°C). Thick hair needs more heat to style effectively, but be careful not to overdo it to avoid drying out or damaging your hair. Setting the right temperature protects your hair and ensures you get the best styling results.

Tip 3 Work in sections

Dividing your hair into different sections is a crucial step for evenly styled hair. Start by dividing your hair into four to six sections, depending on the thickness and length of your hair. Use hair clips to secure the sections. Work one section at a time by brushing it thoroughly and then treating it with the airstyler. This method ensures that each section of your hair receives the same amount of heat and attention, resulting in a uniform and professional look. Although this approach takes a little more time, it provides a much better end result.

Tip 4 Always hold the hair for 15-20 sec. for optimal results

For best styling results, it is important to hold the hair with the airstyler for 15 to 20 seconds (no longer). This allows the heat to penetrate properly and allow the hair to take the desired shape. Holding too short can result in curls that sag quickly, while holding too long can damage the hair. Experiment with the length of time to find the perfect balance for your hair type and desired curl.

Tip 5 Use the right attachments

The airstyler comes with several attachments, each designed for specific styling needs. Try out the different attachments to discover which works best for your hair type and desired curl style. Narrow attachments are ideal for tight, defined curls, while wider attachments are suitable for loose, natural waves. Using the right attachment can make a big difference in the end result and helps you create a versatile and personalized look.

Tip 6 Allow the curls to cool

A crucial step in the styling process is letting the curls cool before you touch or brush them. By allowing the curls to cool completely, the shape settles better and the curls stay longer. Use the coldshot feature of your airstyler to speed up the cooling process. This not only helps to fix the shape, but also gives the curls more shine and definition. Skipping this step can result in limp and quickly falling out curls.

Tip 7 Use hairspray

To keep your styled hair in shape longer, the use of hairspray is recommended. After styling, you can spray a light mist of hairspray over your hair. This helps fix the curls and protects them from moisture and other environmental factors that can cause your hair to sag. Choose a hairspray that suits your hair type and make sure you apply it evenly for a long-lasting and firm hold.

Additional tips

  • Use a fixing spray before and after styling
  • Pin the curls while they cool
  • Use a silk or satin pillowcase
  • Avoid touching your hair
  • Use dry shampoo
  • Protect your hair from moisture
